About Migrations World Dance & Music Festival
Migrations was founded in 2016 with a vision of producing a new kind of dance and music festival. Inspired by the tradition and love of 3rd Coast Tribal, the Migrations Team set out to create a festival that brings together music and dance from around the world. From the roots of folk dances to the latest dance trends, we search for experienced and innovative teachers to inspire movement and share their expertise.
Migrations represents a movement of dance and evolution of styles, an idea of travel, growth, and change. We are inspired by the way dance, and bellydance in particular, has passed through families, communities, from culture to culture, sharing and morphing from initial forms into the myriad of fusions, styles, and beautiful shapes it takes now.
The Migrations Team is also inspired by the annual migrations of the world-famous Austin bats. The Mexican Freetail bats spends April through October each year here in Austin, living in huge colonies, including under the Congress Street Bridge. Seeing an estimated 1.5 million bats fly out from under your feet to swarm off into the dusk on nightly excursions is an unforgettable experience!
Welcome to our journey and join us as we take flight with Migrations!
