TekTonic: Music & Movement for Frame Drum
Discover the frame drum as more than a musical instrument—it’s a partner in movement, a resonant body, and a rhythmic guide. In this workshop, dancers will explore the dynamic relationship between embodied rhythm and expressive movement using the frame drum as both prop and percussion.
Participants will learn:
• Foundational strokes and techniques for frame drum (no prior experience required)
• Breath-aligned rhythms that anchor movement phrases
• Travel patterns, gestures, and dynamic transitions that flow with the drum
• How to move with the drum—instead of around it—using weight, timing, and momentum
The focus is on improvisation-ready tools and intentional phrasing, encouraging dancers to access a grounded, instinctual rhythm that lives in the body as much as in the beat. This is not a choreography-based class, but a movement exploration designed to unlock creativity and connection with the drum as an extension of the self.
Bring:
A frame drum if you have one (some loaners may be available), clothing that allows full range of motion, and an open mind for rhythmic play.
Ideal For:
All movement and percussion-curious artists—from dancers ready to deepen their musicality to drummers eager to embody rhythm in motion. No prior drum experience necessary—just a willingness to move, play, and listen.
