Shaer Shaer!!/Iraqi Hair Suspension

This class is all about the fantastic hair of the Kawliya (Romani) people of Iraq. Raks al Kawliya is a dance style that is in danger of becoming extinct in its earthy form. As modern influences evolve this dance, its subtlety and passion are taking a back seat for acrobatics and stage drama. In this workshop, we will focus on proper body techniques and exercises to create proper hair suspension. We will explore the history of hair dance in Iraq, where the power to move the hair comes from and when to do the hair in Iraqi dance. We will discuss hair length, extensions and wigs, including products and methods to keep artificial hair in place. Supportive footwear and a hip scarf are recommended.
